California Dreamin'An Australian Kelpie abandoned in the county and picked up by Animal Control, got a reprieve and a chance for a new life in California.
The Kelpie was abandoned in the county and picked up by Animal Control. He was labeled a Shepherd mix, but one of the FoSCA volunteers recognized him to be an Australian Kelpie. FoSCA named him Joey and took photos of him and posted his profile on Petfinder.com.
A week later, a couple in Vacaville, California searched on Petfinder.com for a companion for their female Red Cloud Kelpie. They thought they had entered a 100 mile radius for the search, but this was Joey's lucky day! While looking through all the Kelpies, they came across Joey's photo and fell in love with his lonely face:
They sent the link to family and friends and talked about adopting him. Not until three hours later did they notice he was located in a shelter in Georgia. Too late! They were already in love! They contacted FoSCA and asked for more information. FoSCA sent them more details and a video of Joey. They were hooked!
Plans were started for transporting Joey to California. FoSCA first had to transfer Joey to their shelter, the FoSCA Haven. Then vaccinations, a health certificate and flight arrangements were completed.
On Saturday, FoSCA volunteers transported Joey to Savannah for his flight to his new home. Joey could not have been better. He was very laid back and seemed to know exactly what was going on.
Joey missed one of his connecting flights, but Delta put him up at a kennel overnight. He landed in Sacramento at 9:15am PST Sunday.
His new family named him "Aussie" and he has already gotten his shots, wormer, front-line and a bath. He and his new sister, Millie are getting along great and play all the time. He goes for hikes everyday and keeps up pretty well for not having been active for a month. He is very smart and seems to learn very quickly. His new mommy says that he is a sweet and very lovable doggie and loves to give everyone in the family kisses!
We hope that Joey's success story is one of many more to come. Visit www.Petfinder.com to meet your new best friend today!
